PERFECT TEN FOR LADIES
(February 07, 2010)Nostell Miners Welfare Ladies 1-6 Farsley Celtic Ladies
By James Grayson
Farsley Celtic reached their first major milestone by recording their tenth consecutive league victory. Leading scorer Kerry McLoughlin grabbed a hat-trick, captain Katy Williams notched a brace and substitute Hayley Hare was also on the score-sheet. Although the final score was resounding, Farsley were very poor in the opening ten minutes and could have easily been 3-0 down. Nostell scored after only 90 minutes - Sinead Fay was able to finish from close range, despite being clearly offside. The home side continued to press and were very unlucky to add to their tally. Farsley fought back and on 12 minutes, McLoughlin turned and fired into the bottom corner. The goal could become under scrutiny from the West Riding County FA’s dubious goals panel as Karishma Mehta appeared to guide the ball over the line – currently the goal belongs to McLoughlin. The vital second goal arrived ten minutes before half-time. Mehta won the battle of wits with the Nostell full-back and played a great pass to strike partner McLoughlin who kept her cool and struck home from 12 yards. Farsley were becoming dominant and added a third quickly after half-time. Williams raced from the halfway line, fending off numerous defenders and smashed the ball past the Nostell keeper from the edge of the area. Farsley searched for a killer fourth goal and created a number of chances. Hare rattled the crossbar with a superb volley and the Nostell keeper also made a string of good saves to deny the hungry Farsley attack. With a quarter of an hour to go, McLoughlin sealed her hat-trick by tackling the Nostell keeper and tapping the ball into the empty net. Hare made the score 5-1 on 86 minutes and then deep into injury-time, Williams lashed the ball home from a tight angle after yet another fine run. The Celts are nine points clear at the top of the West Riding Women’s League Division and entertain old rivals Oulton next week at Stanningley Park.
