PARS EXPLAINS BETT DEPARTURE
(August 31, 2010)
Neil Parsley has confirmed Mark Bett’s third spell at Throstle Nest has come to a premature conclusion as the Farsley AFC boss says he has to balance the books.
Ryan Serrant and Amjad Iqbal’s late inclusions to the squad meant the playing budget was stretched to the limit, meaning Parsley was forced to let Bett join Ossett Town, for who he scored the winner in his debut at Bradford Park Avenue yesterday.
Parsley claims he could no longer afford to keep Bett and kindly agreed to his switch to Phil Sharpe’s Ossett because he is unwilling to go back to the habits of the past.
“The reason why Mark Bett has gone to Ossett is basically because of finances here,” Parsley told the official website.
“We have a strict budget here and we adhere to keep to it.
“I felt as if the firepower that was here outweighed the defensive side that I felt we needed to strengthen.
“Amjad Iqbal has come back to the club and I need to have a balanced squad and unfortunately earners are strikers and that’s purely a financial decision that Mark hasn’t been involved.
“Yes Mark is good enough, he’s good enough to play in the Evo-Stik as he proved yesterday by scoring for Ossett at Park Avenue.
“I wish Mark all the best and I hope he scores Phil Sharpe the goals I know he can at Evo Stik level.”
Parsley, though has not ruled out a possible fourth return to the Nest for Bett.
“He is still registered, but having said that, if he is playing for Ossett, I can’t go knocking,” he said.
“If we were struggling and if he would do us a job, then yes, we have all left it amicably.
“So, yes it is an option.”
Bett’s departure comes at a time when Parsley has a crippling injury list.
Club captain Dominic Krief (calf), Andy Cooper (knee), Andy Watson (foot), Dave Stead (knee) and Amjad Iqbal (Ramadan) missed the Dinnington Town game and they were joined by Ryan Serrant who limped off after half an hour.

Experienced man Connor – who has Bradford Park Avenue, Ashton United, North Ferriby and Stalybridge Celtic to name as just four of his former clubs – recently appealed for a club on the NonLeagueDaily website and Parsley is the man who answered his call.
Connor made his bow against Dinnington and Parsley says he fits the bill perfectly.
“Lee and I spoke over the summer and if we had had a full array, Lee may not have figured,” he said.
“I threw him in yesterday and I know what Lee gives me.
“He gives me experience, an older head there to play alongside Jacko.
“He wins his headers, he’s a good talker and his distribution is good so he knows what we are all about and one thing is for sure, if Lee keeps putting in performances like that, there is something here for him.”
