Reserves Super Eight
(January 29, 2012)After a poor result last week in the Leeds and District Cup Farsley Reserves were back to their very very best and demolished Eccelshill 8-0 in the opening round of the League Cup. Everyone contibuted, everyone stood up to be counted and the effect was shattering as Farsley held the ball well and moved the ball around with confidence.Seven different scorers shows the contributions from across the team as everyone got involved.
We decided before the game that the best way to blow the cobwebs away (after last weeks poor showing) was to throw out a challenge to the players to express themselves out there on the pitch.....to a man they did us proud. New signings Oliver Devenish and Sam Helliwell made great starts at centreback and right side midfield respectively and from the U17s, promising youngster Dominic Staunton made another excellent contribution in midfield for the closing 35 minutes.
6-0 at half time was fair reward for some excellent play as everyone got in on the act.....Craig Tonkinson hit the goal of the day with a real beauty from the edge of the box that buried itself in the roof of the net from 25 yards out....ouch!! Craig had his best game so far for the Reserves and our mickey taking about his shots on goal seems to be paying dividends. Great organiser too!!
Eder Ruiz was just about unstoppable down both flanks and ran himself into the ground as did Declan Keaney who again starred in an out of position role, this time at left back. Joe Mitchell was a bundle of energy all afternoon and linked up well with midfielder Ryan Carr who was faultless.
Scorers: Oliver Devenish, Joe Mitchell, Lamin Colley, Anthony Bradley, Aodhan Brownlee (2)Craig Tonkinson and Eder Ruiz
Man of the Match: Eder Ruiz and Declan Keaney....couldnt split 'em for their contributions
